Relationship among Academic Stress, Motivation and Academic Achievement of CAILS Diploma Students, Ilorin, Nigeria

This study examined the relationship among academic stress, motivation and academic achievement of Kwara state College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies Diploma students, Ilorin. The study was guided by three objectives, three research questions and three null hypotheses. Correlational design was used in the study. Mean and Standard Deviation were used to answer the research questions while Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. An adopted Academic Stress Scale and adapted Academic Motivation Scale were used as instruments for data collection. The findings showed that, significant relationship existed among academic stress and intrinsic motivation among the Diploma students. Academic stress was found to have significant relationship with extrinsic motivation and significant relationship was also found among academic stress and academic achievement. Based on the findings, it was concluded that significant relationship existed among the key variables in relation to the respondents. It was recommended that lecturers should employ teaching techniques that provide students with opportunities to make choices and have some degree of control over their learning and motivation for greater academic achievement.
