FROM THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
I am quite delighted to welcome readers with diverse but inter-twined educational interests (researchers, classroom teachers, educational planners/administrators and curriculum developers) to the maiden edition of Journal of Humanities Education (JOHED) which is domiciled in the Department of Arts Education, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria. In tune with the journal’s editorial policy, this ground-breaking edition presents twelve (12) incisive articles comprising nine (9) empirical and three (3) expository studies within Humanities Education and spanning the rubics of History Education, Language Education, Art Education, Social Studies Education, Moral Education, Arabic & Islamic Education and Educational management, all united by the broad themes of academic achievement/performance, classroom delivery, teacher competence/performance and school leadership/proprietorship.
In more specific terms, seven (7) of the papers have addressed the critical factor of the teacher in terms of professional views, perception, attitudes, competence, teaching methods and classroom management techniques, including disciplinary strategies vis-a-vis expected learning outcomes. The rest five (5) articles examine respectively the critical roles of the other significant factors of the learner, the parent, the curriculum planner and the school leader/proprietor in effective teaching and learning at the basic, secondary and tertiary levels.
We fervently hope that the findings and submissions in this foundational edition would provoke fresh and far-riching investigative (re)thinking and also stimulate innovative and impactful educational policy and practice.
